Craniosacral Therapy at About Balance Brighton
What is Craniosacral Therapy (CST)?
CranioSacral therapy (CST) is a gentle, yet profound hands-on bodywork that examines the membranes and movement of cerebrospinal fluid in and around the central nervous system which in turn affects the whole body and its systems (e.g.muscular, skeletal, digestive, respiratory, urinary, cardiovascular, endocrine etc.) The therapist palpates and determines the areas of dysfunction in the body and using a light touch enables the body to release any restrictions in the fascia, muscles, bones and membranes. It combines techniques of myofascial release, cranial osteopathy and energy healing.
Please note that Itka is currently only treating children from 6 years old.
How can Craniosacral Therapy help you?
CST can help with a wide range of problems including acute pain, chronic pain, migraine headache, spinal misalignment, neurodegenerative diseases, stroke, facial, mouth and head trauma, tinnitus, TMJ problems, whiplash, menstrual problems, skeleto-muscular issues, trapped nerves, speech problems, slipped discs, breathing difficulties, digestive problems, autoimmune dysfunctions, Long Covid and many others. It may provide relief from side effects of cancer treatment, help to recover after an illness, trauma or injury. Because CST directly works on our nervous system, deeper emotional issues and cognitive functions, stress, anxiety, insomnia and PTSD might be addressed and improved during the treatment. CST balances our autonomic nervous system and activates the parasympathetic nervous system (rest and digest), activates the vagus nerve and can induce a deep state of relaxation.
CST is thought to improve efficiency of biological processes through boosting inherent self-regulation, self-correction and self-healing. The therapy can be used successfully with children, adults, elderly, people with learning difficulties and it is safe in pregnancy. Craniosacral therapy addresses all levels of our being – the physical, energetical, mental-emotional and the spiritual level. It can improve the energy flow, release blockages in chakras, release unexpressed emotions, physical and emotional trauma, give a new direction in life situations, can help to improve interpersonal relationships and even induce an alternate state of consciousness. When we introduce psychotherapy elements into Craniosacral therapy we dive deeper into the holistic treatment called SomatoEmotinal release (SER).
